Yes, she knows exactly how significant her win is to some of us... SHE GET'S IT! Now I can only hope that "the powers that be" start to get it and open up the doors of opportunity for more significant roles for us. I'll be there knocking and ready to sashay through.
When Amber Riley won Dancing With The Stars I couldn't help but get a little emotional and think..Amber may not ever know just how significant her win is to some of us. By "some of us" I mean full figured women. We have a handful of actresses on television and film who are full figured and with the exception of Drop Dead Diva and Glee, these are usually self deprecating characters. I long to see women who are content in their own skin portray the leading lady, the ingenue, and dare I say...the love interest and seductress. Amber spoke to her audience after the win and said: "I want to let women of all sizes out there know you can do whatever you put your mind to! It doesn't matter what size, what color you are — you can do whatever, whatever, whatever you put your mind to!" She added, "And it's a representation that you can do whatever it is that you put your mind to. I think it's amazing that I'm doing something positive, and I did something just because I wanted to learn how to dance, just because I wanted to work out, I wanted to be healthy." " I just want to dance well ... I don't think it should be an anomaly for a person my size to be able to dance or have confidence. Everybody should have confidence."
