Last night there was a staged reading of SHE HATES COFFEE by playwright A.R. Garcia, aka radio personality, Dominican Soul at Teatro LaTea. To my delight I wasn't cast as a mom and instead I played the protagonist's former girlfriend. Mr. Garcia's work is still in development and the purpose of the reading was to bring his characters to life in order to make necessary edits. From Mr Garcia: "She Hates Coffee” is a male introspective on relationships. The story is about a young Latino male who is unlucky in love and has a bad habit of choosing the wrong woman. It’s an emotionally engaging piece that allows people to see how men really feel and think about their love life. It also depicts how men really share with each other whats happening in their love life, disproving the misconception that we keep everything inside. This story begins with the protagonist who is left at the alter and driven into the arms of yet another bad choice in a love partner. All the while the right woman was right in front of him. Will he realize who his real love should be or will he miss out just as many of us have? I love participating in staged readings because it allows the actors to hone their craft in front of an audience without the obligation of memorizing lines. Another great perk is the opportunity to meet and work with other talented actors. Q& A time for the playwright The cast with writer A.R. Garcia, "The Bearded One" Freestyle Queen, Judy Torres
