Last week I posted this photo on Facebook for "Throwback Thursday, or #TBT. The headshot was taken many, many years ago when I auditioned for QVC. I used to watch QVC every day, and since I was already in sales at my 9-5, it seemed like the ideal job for my art of persuasion to meet me in front of a camera.
So, imagine my surprise when just ONE WEEK AFTER posting that photo, I received a call from former QVC Host, Lisa Mason, asking me to come audition for an on-air talent position. I honestly thought it was a prank call; someone who saw my FaceBook post was trying to set me up, and I was being punked. But, it wasn't a prank, or a joke...it was the real thing. Lisa explained that I was recommended by someone from a Hosting workshop I had taken. Talk about putting something out there into the Universe, and having it respond! A few days later I was told to be hair and makeup ready for an on-camera audition with Lisa herself.
During my audition I learned of the many sacrifices the on-air talent has to make. One of these sacrifices would include giving up on my acting and modeling, since QVC would be my priority. I did some soul searching, and I came to the realization that this dream was right for me at one time of my life, but not the present. Having the opportunity presented to me when I wasn't looking was a blessing I don't take for granted; not booking it was a blessing of another kind. I love what I do now, and I am truly following my passion.
Before heading to the interview...
